Southern Flinders Commodities (SFC) was established in 2006 by seven families who amongst other interests operate farming properties in or around Gladstone, in the Mid North of South Australia.

Our properties are situated in the Southern Flinders Ranges, and run from Appila in the North through to Yacka in the South. The closest township is Gladstone (population ~700) which is approximately in the centre, and the Northern Areas Council has a population base of ~ 5000.

We use the some of the latest technologies and varieties on our mixed farms (crops & livestock). We grow durum wheat, bread wheat, a range of pulses, hay, some small seeds and run livestock on our properties.

Our farms are in a non-irrigated-dryland environment that has a yearly rainfall ranging between 375mm ∓ 500mm per year, and our grain quality ranks with the best in the world as our growing environment has abundant sunlight combined with long days.

The current directors have all had business experience running off-farm enterprises in addition to the farming operations. Several currently have or have had previous company directorships, run multiple businesses, local government positions and Industry leadership posts. Two are graduate members of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a third has been invited to apply for Fellowship.
